Enjoy the Benefits of Shared Living!

What is Homeshare?

Homeshare is a globally recognised approach that connects people wishing for friendship and a helping hand in their own home with people looking for affordable accommodation.

Have you ever thought that you'd love to help someone out - in return for some help yourself? - Now you can! That's because homesharing creates  relationships of mutual benefit.

If you have a home yourself and are looking for some assistance with meals, cleaning, gardening, pets or transportation, a homesharer will donate 10 hours a week of their time to assist you, in return for a temporary stay in your home.

What are the Benefits?

Shared living eliminates the negative impacts of loneliness and improves wellbeing, offering both parties a sense of security and companionship.

Homeowners benefit from living independently for longer through the support of shared living, allowing friends and their families peace of mind and reassurance that they are safe and no longer alone.

Homesharers provide 10 hours of assistance with household tasks per week. In return, they enjoy greatly reduced accommodation expenses with no long-term agreements to sign or hefty deposits to pay.

Improving Homelife together

Homeshare Leicestershire is a member of Homeshare International, therefore supported by a large peer network, good practice guidance and a quality assurance framework.

Safeguarding is paramount in Homeshare. Our application process includes DBS (criminal record checks), reference checks and interviews. The suitability of the home and the needs of both parties are assessed before any introductions are made.

Roo Peake

Originally, a Youth & Community Worker, managing statutory youth services in the north of Leicestershire, Roo redirected her focus to work in Adult Social Care as her own health deteriorated. As Officer for Leicestershire County Council’s Shared Lives Service, she matched and monitored the quality of the Shared Lives Service, in which differently abled or older adults move into their carers home rather than living in supported or residential care environments. Roo is regularly seen on matchdays at Leicester City Football Club or at gigs at the Leicester Comedy Festival.
